Learning from those with lived experience
Each KinCarolina participant gets matched with a peer liaison for guidance, mentorship, and support.
KinCarolina’s peer liaisons build supportive relationships with their caregivers to empower, coach, and guide them in decision-making and actions to support their family’s well-being.
Peer liaisons are also kinship caregivers raising children with a disability or special health care need … and they are matched to their mentees based on shared experiences.
KinCarolina’s peer liaisons are carefully selected, trained, supervised, and supported by program staff. They also receive financial compensation for their time and opportunities to serve on the Advisory Council.
Interested in being a peer liaison?
Peer liaisons will support KinCarolina participants in five key areas:
- Caregiver mentoring;
- Coaching and advocacy related to the child’s disability;
- Encouraging their caregiver to get support, through information and referrals;
- Network-building and socio-emotional support; and
- Promoting of self-care and family well-being.
